Nepal Travel Weather Advisory: Possible Rainfall and Snowfall, 29–31 October
26 October 2026 | NepalNOW Travel Update
Weather outlook
A developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal may influence weather conditions across parts of Nepal towards the end of October.
Current forecasts suggest increased rainfall from Thursday, 29 October, with Friday, 30 October, potentially seeing the most unsettled conditions.
There is also a possibility that moisture from the Bay of Bengal will interact with a weather system approaching from the northwest. This could increase rainfall in parts of the plains and mid-hills, with snowfall at higher Himalayan elevations.
The intensity, timing and geographical spread are still uncertain.
What could this mean for travellers?
Most travel across Nepal continues as planned, although some adjustments may become necessary depending on how the weather develops.
- High-altitude trekking: Travellers in the Everest, Annapurna, Manaslu and Langtang regions should pay particular attention to forecasts, especially when planning mountain pass crossings.
- Road journeys: Rainfall may affect some mountain highways, potentially causing delays or temporary disruptions.
- Domestic flights: Cloud cover and reduced visibility could affect flight schedules, particularly at mountain airports.
- Cultural and wildlife experiences: Rain may affect outdoor activities in destinations such as Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan, but conditions will vary by location.
Our advice to travellers
There is no need to make widespread changes to travel plans at this stage.
However, travellers planning high-altitude treks, mountain flights or journeys through landslide-prone areas between 29 and 31 October should stay in close contact with their local operators and guides.
Allowing some flexibility in travel schedules is sensible while forecasts become clearer.
This is a precautionary advisory, not a report of widespread travel disruption. Weather conditions across Nepal can vary significantly, and impacts in one region do not necessarily affect other destinations.
We are keeping watch
NepalNOW is monitoring developments through Nepal’s Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, regional weather agencies and international forecasting models.
Our next travel update will be published tomorrow, 27 October, as we continue monitoring the situation. Should there be significant developments before then, we will share additional information.

Traveller questions
Does this affect my trip?
Is the whole of Nepal affected?
No. The flooding is concentrated along the Bhote Koshi–Trishuli river corridor.
Should I travel to Langtang, Rasuwagadhi or Gosaikunda?
No — these areas fall directly within the affected corridor and should be avoided for now.
Are Kathmandu, Pokhara, Everest, Annapurna and Chitwan affected?
No. Kathmandu, Pokhara, Everest, Annapurna and Chitwan are all outside the affected corridor and continue to operate normally.
Should I cancel my Nepal trip?
Not simply because of this disaster, if your itinerary does not pass through the affected corridor. Check your itinerary with your travel company.

Looking for someone, or want to check who’s been rescued?
A community-run tracker maintains a live, searchable list of rescued, missing and reunited people from the Rasuwa–Bhotekoshi corridor. It is volunteer-maintained, not an official government source — please also confirm with the numbers below.
Unofficial, community-maintained data — always cross-check with NDRRMA, Nepal Police (100) or the Tourist Police (1144) before acting on it.Nepal today
